Cross the Gangotri glacier and arrive at Tapovan, which is recognized for its picturesque environment. The magnificent Bhagirathi group of peaks including Neelkanth Peak may be seen from here. The Gangotri hike takes you through pine forests and flowery valleys.

The Gangotri glacier is one of the principal sources of the holy river Ganges, and there are several mythical traditions related with the Ganges’ origin and fall.

This journey visits several such locations, beginning with the spiritual city of Rishikesh, widely known as the “Gateway to the Himalayas.” After arriving in Uttarkashi, the starting point for many trekking trips, you will arrive at Gangotri. The Gangotri trek begins here and takes you via Bhojbasa as you walk beside the Bhagirathi River.

Day 1 Haridwar to Uttarkashi

Travel by road from Haridwar to Uttarkashi (1,150 m) (195 km/7-8 hours).

  • Uttarkashi sightseeing, Nehru Mountaineering Institute
  • The day begins with an early morning journey from Haridwar to Uttarkashi, renowned as the starting point for hiking to Gangotri.
  • After arriving in Uttarkashi, a sightseeing tour of prominent destinations such as India’s leading mountaineering institute, ‘Nehru Mountaineering Institute’, is planned.
  • Stay in a hotel for the night.
Day 02 Uttarkashi to Gangotri

Drive from Uttarkashi to Gangotri (3,048 m) (90 km/3-4 hours by road)

  • Begin at Uttarkashi and travel to Gangotri.
  • The tour begins early in the morning with a drive up to Gangotri, a religiously significant location.
  • Gangotri is thought to be the abode of Goddess Ganga, and it is from here that the walk begins.
  • It is one of the four pilgrimage locations in Uttarakhand and is located on the banks of the holy river Bhagirathi.
  • Stay the night at a tourist lodge.
Day 3 Gangotri - Bhojbasa

Trek from Gangotri – Bhojbasa (3,658 m)

  • 14-kilometer walk, Bhagirahi River, and Neelkanth Peak
  • A 14-kilometer hike will lead you to Bhojbasa, which is noted for its coniferous birch trees.
  • The hike follows the Bhagirathi River on the right and is primarily an uphill ascent.
  • The climb may leave you out of breath at times, but the spectacular vista of Neelkanth Peak more than compensates for the physical toll.
  • Enjoy the sunset views from the camp before retiring for the night.
Day 4 Bhojbasa - Gaumukh - Tapovan

Trek from Bhojbasa – Gaumukh – Tapovan (4,400 m)

  • Sunrise View, Gangotri Glacier, Mt Shivling, 10 km hike
  • Prepare to trek farther upwards to Tapovan after enjoying the spectacular dawn vista early in the morning.
  • To go to Tapovan, you must first pass Gaumukh.
  • The landscape is a little rough here, so take care with your steps.
  • The Gangotri glacier appears daunting, and a sense of humility pervades your entire being.
  • You’ll cross from the right bank of the glacier to the left and then continue climbing through the glacier moraine to Tapovan, which also serves as a base camp for those who want to climb Mt. Shivling.
  • The view from Tapovan is breathtaking, especially of the Bhagirathi Peaks.
  • Stay in a tent for the night.
Day 5 Tapovan - Bhojbasa - Chirbasa

Trek from Tapovan – Bhojbasa – Chirbasa (3,300 m)

  • Back to Chirbasa through Bhojbasa after a 14-kilometer journey from Tapovan.
  • The downward trip begins, making the expedition less taxing.
  • The return trip follows a different path, and you arrive at Chirbasa through Bhojbasa.
  • Enjoy your last night at camp.
Day 6 Chirbasa - Gangotri, drive from Gangotri - Uttarkashi

Trek from Chirbasa – Gangotri, drive from Gangotri – Uttarkashi (90 km)

  • This walk is quite short because it goes downhill to Gangotri.
  • After arriving in Gangotri, drive to Uttarkashi and spend the day at a resort.
Day 7 Uttarkashi to Rishikesh/Haridwar

Drive from Uttarkashi to Rishikesh/Haridwar

In the morning, you will be transported to Rishikesh/Haridwar.
